Wheel Time

You can see the Diffrence with the sanding I started with 100 to get rid of the curb grind then whent to 250 wet sand.

Here you can see the diffrence sanded with 250 then 500 then 1000. Then I used Mothers Wheel polish and a power drill with a buffing wheel.

I got over the idea of having the car driving by Monterey Historics last weekend. I do not have the crew of Overhaulin at my disposial so I had realize that It will just take a little more time. I took the set of wheels down and had the tires dismounted then started to polish them.

painting turns to real work

I have a complete set of these aluminum wheels anyone reconize them? I think they are american racing they have an A in the center cap. I think I am going to polish them up after a lot of sanding and smoothing on them that is...

after spending some time on the painting of my car, I started to think of the things I wanted to and needed to do to my car. So I made a list of everything I could think of and started to work on a few of the things I could do with just my effort. So I swaped the passenger seat from the 2002 to my little red 1600. I then cleaned out the trunk and removed the gas tank flushed it and put it back in. I took the electric fuel pump and the fuel gage float from my 2002 and installed them on my 1600. I found the trunk in very good shape no rust in there to worry about so I am happy. The rear bumper was loose, I removed it tightend up the bolts and saw that one of the brackets is bent and the bumper is a little tweeked, it will do for now. I am visualizing myself driving over to Monterey for the Historics Aug 18th. I have a lot more work to do but it is going to be fun.

My Vision and a vision of what is

This is one of my Visions of what the little BMW will look like. Well here is a picture to Motovate me this is one look i like on the old BMW's I shaved the door handels and side markers in Photoshop I am going to photoshop this picture some more change the wheels and mabey lower it. I like the turbo spoiler up front and the turbo style flares. This should help me get excited about the work ahead.

This is how the car looks right now...

There are many things that need to be done before the 1600 will be back on the road. I am making a list of stuff that needs to be done in stage one

Stage one: Get Car running and street legal

This will include flushing the fuel system. Installing a radiator, new battery checking all the fuses that are missing. install a shift lever the one out of the 2002 may fit. I need to find 4 good tires and rims out of the lot that i got with the cars. Change the oil and filters man there is a ton of stuff to get this car going.

The 1967 BMW 1600

My Dad bought this car many years ago and drove it all over SoCal even took it on a trip down to Mexico. This is the one that I am going to get going on the road first the 1600 motor will get good gas milage and still be fun to drive. Here are some photos of it as it looks now as we loaded it on the trailer in Simi Valley. My Uncle Ryc helped me get them out and bring them up to Porterville. I am ordering a repair manuel for it so i can start the work to get it road worthy again. Keep checking back for new updates.

The trip to get the 2 BMW's

My Dad called me on Thursday last week and told me that the old 1967 BMW 1600 that he use to drive was down in souther cal and my Uncle needed to have it moved. If I wanted it that he would help me with gas money to go pick it up. So I aranged with my uncle to go pick up the Car down in Simi Valley where it was sitting out in the yard of his mechanic. When I called my uncle he informed me he also had a 1972 bmw 2002 and he would sell it to me for $400. I love these little old cars and rember the 67 when i was a kid and thought it would be a cool car to have. Little did i know i would get it after it had sat for 15 years. Here are some photos of the cars. I will tell more about the crazy adventure of getting them in a future post. The red car in the photo is the 1600 and the blue one is the 2002
